A tune is NOT required to properly use this turbo, but you will get more power if you get a custom tune (any CARB Exemption status would be invalidated by doing that). Also note that it is designed to fit on the stock turbo flange.
When you turn up the boost, you'll often quickly see the limit of your stock turbo. Once you hit this wall, the only way around it is by upgrading your turbo.
